Rohit Sharma became the fourth Indian batsman to hit five consecutive 50+ scores in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) during the India vs Pakistan (INDvsPAK) ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 match in Manchester on June 16 (Sunday). Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane are the other batsmen to achieve the feat. Kohli has done it twice in the space of two years. Sachin reached the landmark in November 1994, after hitting four consecutive half-centuries against West Indies to add to his 62 runs against New Zealand. While Dravid did it in the 2004-2005 period hitting two half-centuries each against Bangladesh and Pakistan and one against ICC World XI. Rahane achieved the feat during Australia’s tour to India in 2017. His first four half-centuries came against the Aussies before he slammed a fine 79 runs in the tour to South Africa.

Kohli, who did it twice, achieved the feat for the first time in 2012. In four of his five half-centuries, Kohli went on to smash a hundred. His first two and fifth half-century came against Sri Lanka, while the third and fourth were scored against Bangladesh and Pakistan respectively. Rohit’s three innings in World Cup 2019 reads 122 not out against South Africa, 57 runs against -Australia and 102* against Pakistan in the current match. He has been in top-form in 2019 and smashed 95 &56 in the final two ODI matches during Australia’s limited-overs tour to India in 2019. India, however, lost the series 2-3.

India were off to a perfect start against arch-rivals Pakistan after being put into bat. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul scripted history by becoming the first Indian opening pair to record a 100+ run opening partnership against Pakistan at the World Cups. The duo broke a 23-year-old record set by Sachin Tendulkar and Navjor Singh Sidhu when they stitched a 90-run opening partnership against Pakistan in the 1996 World Cup. That was highest opening partnership India has managed to post against their Asian rivals in World Cups.
