A video of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s stunning catch against Railways is going viral on the internet. Gaikwad had actually pulled off this stunner out of nowhere almost six months ago in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy – an Indian domestic T20 competition. But the catch - which is way above any other exceptional catches - is going viral after a video of Gaikwad taking this peach of a catch. Gaikwad also gained appreciation from England football great and former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker, who termed it to be perhaps the best catch ever. Shubman Gill Expresses Delight After Getting Maiden Test Call-Up Against South Africa, Says, ‘Honour to Represent India’.

The catch was actually taken in March 2019 during the Maharashtra vs Railways game in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. Railways, chasing 178, required 22 of the final delivery of the game. With defeat imminent, Railways number 10 batsman Manjeet Singh swung his bat wildly at the final delivery and managed it hit the ball soaring over the bowler’s head.

At one stage, the ball looked to be heading over the boundary ropes but Gaikwad, running from long-off, leapt high to pluck the ball out of thin air. In the process though, the Maharashtra batsman had jumped over the boundary ropes and was about to land outside it. But Gaikwad showed a brilliant presence of mind to relay the ball to Divyang Himganekar, who was standing at the boundary ropes, with a perfect back-handed throw just fraction of seconds before he eventually landed (outside the boundary ropes).

Most Stunning Catch in Domestic Cricket?

Himganekar completed the catch and replays showed that it was legally taken without any fielder touching the boundary ropes with the ball in his hand. Manjeet was declared out and Maharashtra won by 21 runs but Gaikwad's presence of mind and terrific skills left everyone – including his teammates, opposition and those on social media, wonderstruck.
