The Sri Lankan fans have made it a habit it seems. After their clean-up act in the third One Day International (ODI) match between Sri Lanka and South Africa, the fans at Pallekele Stadium repeated the cleanliness act in the fourth ODI, on Wednesday, too. The hearty gesture shows how the country has come a long way!

Not too long ago, the Sri Lankan fans at the same venue had disrupted an ODI match which caused a delay for more than 30 minutes, last year. The Lankan fans in the stadium had caused the delay by throwing empty plastic bottles in the field of play.

The fans were displeased after their team’s performance against India, as they were on the brink of victory. Team India, eventually, won the match by six wickets.

Last night, on August 8, the fans at the same venue showed a change of heart and ensured that they left the stadium clean and tidy. The act was also noticed by former Sri Lanka cricketer, Kumar Sangakkara, who is currently commentating in ongoing India vs England Test Series.

Sangakkara took to Twitter to share the pictures and wrote a message along with it. He wrote, “Small things done right, add up to great achievements.” See what Kumar Sangakkara tweeted:

Even the Sri Lankan Cricket Board had shared visuals of the cleanliness act, the fans (students, here) took up the issue of cleanliness in the stadium, in the previous ODI too. You can watch the video of students picking up rags and cleaning the stadium by clicking here.

The fourth ODI between Sri Lanka and South Africa saw the home team won the match by three runs, due to Duckworth Lewis method. Dasun Shanaka was awarded the player of the match award for his all-round performance in the game. Shanaka scored a quick-fire 65 runs off only 34 balls, hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes in his inning. He also took a wicket and gave away 20 runs in his 2 overs, in the rain-shortened contest.
