During the second One-Day International (ODI) between India and Australia, Virat Kohli scored his career’s 39th ODI century. It was Kohli’s fifth ODI hundred in Australia and also it was the 24th time that the right-handed batsman smashed a century while chasing. Kohli apparently now holds the highest ODI score by an Indian captain in Australia as he went past Mohammad Azharuddin’s 93 in 1992 and Sachin Tendulkar’s 93 against Pakistan in 2000.

Kohli’s 104 was also his 64th century in international cricket as he surpassed former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara to take the third spot. Kohli’s century set the tone for India’s win as the hosts chased down 299 in the last over with four balls to spare. MS Dhoni finished unbeaten on 55 off 54 balls as India completed the chased. Earlier, Shaun Marsh registered his career’s seventh ODI century as Australia posted 298/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Marsh scored 131 off 123 balls before he was dismissed in the 48th over. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned with figures of 4/45. Mohammed Shami scalped three wickets as well while debutant fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj went wicketless.
