Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli has gone past Suresh Raina to become the highest run-scorer in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). Kohli reached the milestone during RCB’s match against defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. In the ninth over of RCB innings, Kohli took a single to surpass Raina, who plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). At the start of the match, Kohli needed 33 more runs to go zip past Raina’s 4,558 in 163 IPL matches. Kohli, on the other hand, reached the landmark in his 153rd match. Orange Cap in IPL 2018

The right-hander has four centuries and 32 half-centuries against his name in the IPL. With Kohli and Raina occupying first and second spot respectively, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, and David Warner make up for other three positions on the top five run-scorers in the history of the league.

Meanwhile, Kohli finished unbeaten on 92 off 62 balls against Mumbai Indians but in a losing cause. The RCB captain smashed seven fours and four sixes during his knock. Chasing a daunting target of 214 runs RCB managed to get only 167 in their allotted 20 overs. Kohli was the top-scorer for his side while rest of the batsmen including AB de Villiers failed to make a significant contribution.

While defending champions Mumbai Indians registered their first win of the season, this was RCB’s third defeat in four matches as they slip to seventh position on the IPL 2018 points table.
