Indian weightlifter Vikas Thakur won a bronze medal for India at the Commonwealth Games 2018. The weightlifter won the laurel in men’s 94kg category in Gold Coast. He lifted a total weight of 351 kg, 159kg in Snatch and 192 kg in Clean and Jerk.  Vikas couldn’t lift 200 kgs in the first two attempts but made it look easy in the third try.

With this India’s medal tall comes to 11 (6 Gold, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze). This is Vijay’s second medal at the Commonwealth Games. Back in 2014, he won a silver medal in the 85 kg category. No sooner the news of Vikas winning the bronze medal broke out, the congratulatory message started pouring on social media. These messages also included Virender Sehwag who wrote, “Congratulations Vikas Thakur for winning the bronze in the men’s 94kg category at #GC2018Weightlifting ! Well done!”

Ishant Sharma also tweeted, a congratulatory message for the 24-year-old weightlifter from Ludhiana, he wrote, “Congrats #RaviKumar for bagging Bronze in Men's 10mAirRifle & #VikasThakur on winning Bronze Medal in 94kg ctgy #GC2018Weightlifting #GC2018.”

Talking about India’s day so far at the CWG 2018, shooter Ravi Kumar clinched a bronze medal in Men’s 10m Air Rifle Event with 224.1 points, Punam Yadav bagged a gold medal and lifted combined total of 222kg - 100kg snatch and 122kg clean and jerk. Also, Manu Bhaker added another Gold medal and Heena Sidhu bagged a Silver medal in Women's 10m Air Pistol Event. Manu finished with a score of 240.9, while Heena bagged 234.0 points. With more games scheduled for the day and star Indian athletes in the fray, India can expect few more golden moments!
