Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson reveals his 50-pound weight loss is for his role in Benny Safdie's 'Lizard Music', not an immediate WWE comeback, quashing fan speculation. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has addressed the swirling speculation surrounding his noticeably slimmer physique, confirming that his impressive 50-pound weight loss is a strategic transformation for a current Hollywood project rather than a prelude to a WWE comeback. Fans had quickly linked his new look to a potential return to the squared circle, but the Hollywood megastar has set the record straight, while a lingering WrestleMania promise continues to fuel hopes among the WWE Universe. The Real Reason Behind The Rock's Transformation

Johnson, 54, revealed on Instagram that he spent nearly a year gradually shedding approximately 50 pounds (22 kilos) to prepare for his role in Benny Safdie’s upcoming fantasy adventure film, 'Lizard Music'. In the film, Johnson is set to portray an older gentleman, necessitating a departure from the colossal build he has maintained for previous action-packed roles.

Prior to this, Johnson had bulked up to around 282 pounds (127.9 kg) for his demanding portrayal of MMA legend Mark Kerr in 'The Smashing Machine'. He then transitioned almost immediately into filming the live-action 'Moana', forcing him to maintain that significant mass, which he admitted took a toll on his body. His current weight now stands between 232 and 235 pounds (105-106 kg), a weight he last carried during his freshman football season at the University of Miami.

“I wanted to take my time, drop the weight in a smart, wise and healthy way – nothing extreme,” Johnson explained, detailing his strategic diet that included cutting out refined sugars and partitioning carbohydrates around his training. He added that he feels “phenomenal at this weight,” citing improved strength, endurance, cardiovascular health, and overall well-being.

WrestleMania Dreams Live On

While his current physical change isn't for WWE, The Rock has kept the door ajar for a future wrestling appearance. During a recent appearance on “The Morning Shift” podcast in August 2026, Johnson made a specific promise to the hosts. When asked about his next WWE WrestleMania appearance, he stated, “I’ll make the promise to you now, whenever I do go back to WrestleMania, I gotta have you guys out. You’ll be my special guests, for sure.” Kimi Antonelli Clinches F1 Spanish GP 2026: Max Verstappen Takes 2nd, Lando Norris Finishes 3rd.

This statement, made nearly two years after his last major WWE appearance at WrestleMania 40 in April 2024, ensures that the 'Final Boss' remains a highly anticipated figure for wrestling fans. At WrestleMania 40, Johnson teamed with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night One, and played a pivotal role in the Night Two main event. His last televised WWE appearance was at Elimination Chamber in March 2025.

Despite the immediate focus on his acting career and the 'Lizard Music' project, the possibility of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson gracing a WWE ring once more remains a tantalizing prospect for fans, fueled by his own words of a future return to the grandest stage of them all.
