The euphoria of FIFA World Cup 2018 is over! We are back to club football and what better way to see your favourite football players again in your favourite teams for the entire season. The fixtures for 2018-19 La Liga season, also known as La Liga Santander, were announced recently, and the first match will be played on August 17.
The clubs that were promoted from the Segunda Division 2017-18 were Huesca, Rayo Vallecano and Real Valladolid as they replaced Malaga, Las Palmas, and Deportivo La Coruna. Real Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano have had previous experience in the Spanish La Liga while Huesca will be marking their first season in the first division which is quite a feat for such a small club.
The first match will be played on the weekend as it will see Girona and Valladolid lock horns with each other. The La Liga 2018-19 season will have a 38-week match-schedules with the twenty teams playing each other in the customary in the home and away format.
The top sides of the league-the trio of Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona have dominated football in both Spain and Europe for several years now. Both the Madrid based clubs are current champions of Europe after having won Europa League and the Champions League last season.

The Spanish football is often criticised for offering little competitiveness among the teams, as in it becomes a tad predictable at times unlike the English Premier League wherein week after week we see shock upsets. But that does not take the shine away from the league, considered to be the most technically advanced compared to any other league.
