Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho has denied reports that he may face the axe at Old Trafford and that the United Board have contacted former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane to take over. Mourinho is under immense pressure to deliver after a series of poor results and off-field controversies surrounding over his tensed relationship with Paul Pogba and the failure to recruit his preferred targets during the summer transfer window. United are without a win in three matches across all competitions after the drab draw against Wolves was followed by Carabao Cup ejections at the hands of Championship side Derby County and weekend loss to West Ham. Senior sources at Old Trafford dismissed reports that they have spoken to Zidane as nonsense and when Mourinho was questioned regarding this, he was confident that his job is fine. He even declined to answer whether he and Executive Vice-Charmain Ed Woodward had a phone call, merely dismissing by saying it was a private matter. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach said that it is a collective effort of the team to win football matches. Luke Shaw described Saturday’s loss as horrendous and said that the players needed to give more on the pitch. United play Valencia on Tuesday in the Champions League at Old Trafford after comfortably beating Young Boys in their opening match.
