Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, died at a Delhi hospital on Thursday at the age of 80. Kumar, who was serving a life sentence at Tihar Jail, was taken to Safdarjung Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The Delhi High Court had convicted Kumar in 2018 for his role in the deaths of five people during rioting in Delhi's Palam Colony on November 1 and 2, 1984, following the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment on December 17, 2018. Kumar had challenged the conviction and sentence before the Supreme Court, where his appeal was pending at the time of his death.
