Chris Smalling will celebrate his 30th birthday on Friday (November 22). The center-back is best known for his time in England with the thirteen-time premier league champions Manchester United. As a youngster, Chris played for Walderslade Boys and Lordswood, after a short spell at Millwall's academy, a 16-year old Smalling joined Maidstone United’s youth system. After rising through their reserve team set-up under the guidance of coaches Peter Nott and Tony Cornwell, Smalling made his senior debut for the club on April 11, 2007, in a Kent Super Cup loss to Tonbridge Angels. He made his league debut for the club in December 2007 against Harlow Town. Smalling made himself an undisputed starter in the team and in 2008 the young defender signed for Middlesbrough.
