Sushma Swaraj, former Minister of External Affairs and veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), breathed her last at the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Her sudden demise left the nation in splits with many, including several sportspersons such Gautam Gambhir, and Virender Sehwag, taking to social media to pay tributes to one of India’s most loved political leaders. Swaraj, 67, passed away due to a cardiac arrest she experienced on Tuesday night. The veteran politician passed away about half an hour after being admitted to AIIMS in a critical situation. Swaraj left her lasting legacy in Indian politics. Swaraj was the second women to become the Minister of External Affairs of India after former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She served at the post from May 2014 to May 2019, during which the late politician played an influential role in bringing back many trapped Indian citizens back to the subcontinent from Gulf countries. Her activeness and swift replies on social media made her ‘Social media's favourite politician.’ Swaraj had refused to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections owing to ill health.
