Tennis bad boy Nick Kyrgios has always lighted up the Tennis court with his glaring creativeness and flashy movements. But the 43rd ranked Australian has gone above his ways to entertain the crowd and earn cheeky points off opponents in Wimbledon 2019. Against world no 2, Rafael Nadal, it was his underarm serve that grabbed headlines when both men met in round two of Wimbledon 2019 on Thursday. Kyrgios was also applauded for his tricky move with the audience in the centre court applauding the move with claps. The incident occurred in the very first set of the Nadal vs Kyrgios game with Nadal leading the set 5-2. Nadal was also leading the sixth round of the first set 40/0 when Kyrgios, who was serving, surprised everyone with an underarm serve. Nadal, who was expecting a usual fast serve stood shocked before playing the ball back to Kyrgios. But despite being shocked the audience in the stands applauded his presence of mind and clapped for the move. Nadal, however, went on to seal the set 6-3 before Kyrgios levelled the sets with a 6-3 victory. Kyrgios has always been a tough opponent for the Spaniard and both have won thrice each in six past meetings.
This was, however, not the first time Kyrgios has tried such a move in Wimbledon 2019. Earlier in his opening round match against Aussie Jordan Thompson, Kyrgios tried a similar move but failed to serve it effectively in the second set. The match went to five sets and lasted for three and half hours before the 2014 Wimbledon quarterfinalist clinched victory with a 7-6 3-6 7-6 0-6 6-1 win. Kyrgios won the first set but lost the second set after failing effectively play his underarm serve.
