Anthropic Extends Claude Fable 5 Access and Code Rate Limits to July 19
Anthropic has extended access to its Claude Fable 5 model and increased Claude Code rate limits for paid subscribers until 19 July. This extension aims to maintain developer interest amid rising competition from new releases like OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 family and follows a rocky initial launch.
Anthropic has announced an extension for its paid subscribers, granting them an additional week of access to its flagship Claude Fable 5 model. The company confirmed that both the expanded access to Fable 5 and the 50% higher weekly rate limits for Claude Code will now remain in effect until 19 July.
This latest extension follows a series of similar reprieves intended to maintain developer engagement. Under the current policy, Fable 5 usage accounts for up to half of a subscriber's weekly limit. Once this allowance is exhausted or the extended window concludes, standard usage credits will resume. Claude Fable 5: Anthropic Opens Most Powerful AI Model to Public With New Safety Guardrails.

Anthropic Strategic Response to Market Competition
The decision to extend access arrives during a period of intense competition within the artificial intelligence sector. Last week, OpenAI launched its GPT-5.6 family, with early performance benchmarks suggesting the new models are competitive with, or in some instances exceeding, the capabilities of Claude Fable 5 in coding and complex reasoning tasks. Maintaining access to Fable 5 serves as a tactical move to keep developers testing and building on the Anthropic platform. Anthropic Addressing Initial Fable 5 Rollout Challenges
The Fable 5 model, which debuted on 9 June as part of Anthropic’s "Mythos" tier, has experienced a challenging launch. Shortly after its release, government-imposed security reviews led to a 19-day suspension of the model. Access was officially restored on 1 July, and since then, Anthropic has provided multiple extensions to the initial trial allowance to ensure users have adequate time to evaluate the model’s performance.
