Anthropic has launched a research preview of Claude Tag, a new feature designed to function as an "always-on" AI teammate within Slack. By allowing users to tag @Claude directly in communication channels, the tool provides persistent context and memory, enabling the AI to assist with tasks and track ongoing projects in real time. This functionality is currently rolling out to Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers.

Unlike previous integrations that required manual prompts for every request, Claude Tag maintains a continuous presence in designated Slack channels. The system allows multiple team members to access a single Claude identity, ensuring that project context is preserved and shared across the group. Administrators retain control over security, specifying which channels, tools, and internal information the AI is permitted to access, thereby preventing the cross-contamination of sensitive data between different departments. Claude Down Funny Memes and Videos Shared on Social Media as Anthropic's AI Chatbot Suffers Outage.

The AI is capable of breaking complex assignments into manageable stages and executing them using authorised tools. Furthermore, it features an "ambient mode," which enables the model to proactively participate in discussions, surface relevant facts from other channels, and follow up on forgotten tasks without being explicitly prompted.

Anthropic's introduction of Claude Tag reflects a broader industry trend where major AI developers are prioritising enterprise context to improve the utility of their models. By moving beyond simple query-response interactions, Anthropic aims to simulate the behaviour of a human colleague capable of working in public view with a comprehensive understanding of institutional knowledge. Claude Down: Anthropic’s Chatbot Experiences Global Outage; Frustrated Users Report Errors on Social Media.

This competitive landscape includes significant efforts from other major firms, such as Microsoft’s integration of Graph through Copilot, and the intelligence layers being developed by platforms like Glean. As businesses increasingly seek AI solutions that tap into tacit organisational data, the ability to maintain persistent, secure, and contextual memory is becoming a defining requirement for enterprise-grade AI deployment.
