California, April 30: Google layoffs already affected the Python Foundation team recently, and now they have hit more departments. The tech layoffs in 2024 already sparked concerns among employees worldwide. Recently, Google fired 28 employees as they protested against the company over the $1.2 billion contract with the Israeli government, known as 'Project Nimbus'. Later, Google sacked more than 20 employees for the same reason.

According to a report by Tech Crunch, Google started laying off key people from the Flutter, Python, Dart and other teams. The staff affected by the recent Google layoffs reportedly shared their details on social media. The report said that the tech giant confirmed laying off employees but did not specify the roles and teams that were sacked. The company said it had been simplifying its structure and allowing more opportunities to work on its "most innovative" and "important advances". The report said that Google also said to enable the employees to work for its biggest priorities while reducing the bureaucracy and layers. Layoffs Hit Indian IT Firms: Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Tech Mahindra Among Others Lost Close to 70,000 Employees in Last Fiscal Year.

Google spokesperson, Alex Garcia-Kummert reportedly said the company would have significant opportunities ahead. Alex said that throughout the second half of 2023 and into 2024, the team working at Google made changes to be more efficient and better at work, remove the layers and align with the resources according to their biggest priorities.

Google Layoffs 2024, Reason and Details

Google reportedly said that the layoffs implemented recently were not company-wide. The Google layoffs were initiated as a normal part of the business reorganisations. The report said that the laid-off employees would be given opportunities to apply for other open positions at Google. Google PM for Dart and Flutter posted on X, "The layoffs were decided AT LEAST a couple of layers above our team and affected a LOT of teams. (I think I can say that). Lots of good folks got bad news and lots of great projects lost people." Healthify Layoffs: Healthtech Startup Cuts Around 27% of Workforce in Restructuring Exercise.

The report revealed that Google had laid off 50 employees across three locations in Sunnyvale. In a show of support, the company pledged to assist the affected employees in accordance with local requirements. This support includes providing them with time to find new roles within or outside the organisation, access to outplacement services, and severance packages. These measures underscore Google's commitment to its workforce and its efforts to mitigate the impact of the layoffs.
