Chennai, July 13: Making India immensely proud of their historic discovery, four students of first-year engineering students in Tamil Nadu have built the smallest and the lightest satellite named 'Jaihind-1s'. The four students- Amarnath P, Giri Prasad T, Sudhi G and Hari Krishnan K J — the team leader belong to Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science in Tamil Nadu's Kelambakkam.

The Jaihind-1s satellite weighs 33.39 grams and will be launched from a NASA facility in the US in August. Not only is the satellite lightweight (33.36 grams), it also has high endurance. The world's lightest satellite costs Rs 15000 and is made by 3D printed PLA Nylon is designed to conduct three experiments.

G.Sudhi, member of Jaihind-1s satellite project informed that the satellite will be used to predict the weather, test Nylon in micro-gravity and track the trajectory of the balloon in which the satellite travels. "We took 2 weeks to assemble the satellite&run the program", Sudhi added.

The four-member team had built the Jaihind-1s satellite as part of 'Cubes in Space', a contest conducted by NASA's Colorado Space Grant Consortium and iDoodle learning, an educational platform.

Reports inform that the satellite was the only 'satellite' that was selected. The contest calls for students below the age of 18 to send in proposals for an experiment that can be sent into space or a near-space environment.
