The Andhra Pradesh government allotted 200 acres to India’s largest IT services exporter in the Anakapalli district near Visakhapatnam. The site sits adjacent to Google’s under-construction 1-gigawatt (GW) hyperscale facility, underscoring Visakhapatnam’s rapid emergence as a primary hub for digital and AI infrastructure investments.
Separately, TCS acquired an 88-acre land parcel in Bopkhel, Pune, for ₹640.50 crore ($66.6 million) from Hemisphere Properties India Ltd. Hemisphere Properties is a state-owned enterprise established to liquidate assets previously held by Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL). Shareholders formally approved the transaction on June 30. Both locations are expected to feed into TCS’s specialized data centre business, HyperVault, which aims to build sovereign AI infrastructure in India. The initial phase targets 100 megawatts (MW) of computing capacity, with plans to scale up to 1 GW as enterprise demand grows. The development builds on a strategic agreement formed between the Tata Group and OpenAI earlier this year, in which OpenAI signed on as the anchor customer for HyperVault. The infrastructure will support AI model training, real-time inference, and low-latency enterprise applications within Indian jurisdiction. Speaking on recent infrastructure plans, TCS Chief Executive Officer K. Krithivasan noted that the company remains in advanced discussions with multiple hyperscalers. He indicated that formal agreements and additional site valuations are expected to conclude in the coming quarters. The moves by TCS highlight a broader rush among Indian technology firms to secure land and power resources for AI workloads. The Tata-OpenAI collaboration represents the third major alliance between a global AI leader and an Indian business conglomerate, following partnerships between Google and Adani, as well as Meta and Reliance. IT services peers including HCLTech, Cognizant, and Accenture are similarly stepping up investments in data infrastructure. According to market intelligence firm IDC, AI spending in India is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 39% through 2030, eventually crossing $20 billion as domestic cloud adoption accelerates.
