Sam Altman has denied the allegations. His mother, Connie Gibstine, and brothers Jack Altman and Max Altman also issued a joint statement supporting him and calling Ann's claims ‘utterly untrue’. The family further alleged that Ann faces mental health challenges and said she has refused conventional treatment while lashing out at family members attempting to help her.

Altman subsequently filed a countersuit accusing his sister of defamation over social media posts in which she made allegations of s*xual abuse. In a filing dated Friday, August 7, Ann rejected her family's characterization of her mental health. She argued that her family has a narrow definition of sanity that does not account for what she described as her ‘more artistic human pursuits’.

Ann also denied that she is mentally ill, saying the characterization was being used by Sam Altman to control her autonomy and career and to silence her. She further claimed that she had been diagnosed with current and likely prospective PTSD, which she attributed directly to what she described as Sam Altman's s*xual abuse during her childhood.

She has acknowledged sharing social media posts about the alleged abuse but asked the court to dismiss Sam Altman's defamation counterclaims.

Ann's attorney, Santos A. Perez, declined to comment on the latest filing when contacted by Globe.

The case has drawn renewed attention online, with Musk reacting to a post about the latest developments on X with the single word, ‘wow’.

Musk's reaction comes against the backdrop of his long-running public conflict with Altman. Musk was among the co-founders of OpenAI before later becoming one of its most prominent critics. He has also taken legal action against OpenAI and Altman.

The allegations made by Ann remain disputed. Sam Altman has denied them and the claims have not been established as fact by a court.
