Samsung 1st Rollable Smartphone Launch by 2028: Report
Samsung is reportedly developing a rollable smartphone featuring a 10-inch OLED panel, targeting a launch in the first half of 2028. This move aims to expand the company’s premium mobile lineup, offering a seamless, crease-free alternative to traditional foldable devices. The company already filed patent for its rollable device in 2025.
Samsung is reportedly in the advanced stages of developing a rollable smartphone, marking a potential shift in the company’s mobile hardware strategy. Industry insiders suggest that the South Korean tech giant is targeting a launch for this innovative device in the first half of 2028, which would coincide with the tenth anniversary of its iconic foldable smartphone series.
As per a report by SamMobile, Samsung Display is currently engaged in discussions to supply the necessary rollable OLED panels to Samsung MX (Mobile eXperience). Samsung Rollable Smartphone Technology and Form Factor
Unlike current foldable devices that rely on mechanical hinges, a rollable phone utilises a flexible OLED panel that unfurls from within the chassis. Market research firm Omdia projects that the device will feature a 10-inch OLED panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio, offering a high pixel density of 440ppi. This design is intended to provide a seamless transition between a compact smartphone and a tablet-sized workspace, effectively blurring the lines between the two categories.
The development of this technology is seen as a strategic play to maintain Samsung's position as an industry leader. By moving away from visible screen creases and mechanical hinge constraints, the company aims to offer a more durable and visually immersive alternative to existing foldable designs.
Samsung Expanding the Galaxy Roadmap
Recent patent filings have further reinforced the possibility of this hardware transition.
