Los Gatos, September 25:ย Netflixย suffered a massive surge in the cancellation ofย subscriptions by the customers as its co-founder,ย Reed Hastings,ย endorsedย US presidential election candidate Kamala Harris.ย The Netflix co-founder also donated millions in support for her, the decision which resulted in the streaming service to suffer loss of subscribers. After the endorsement, the rate of Netflix cancellations rose significantly in the United States.

According toย report by Bloomberg,ย the customers in the US cancelled their Netflix subscriptions at 2.8%, in July 2024, higher rate than any months since February.ย The Netflix US customers opted out of theย subscriptions as the company phased out the cheapest ad-free version on the platform. The report said that Reed Hastings had been aย long-time supporter and donor of Democratic Party.ย On July 22, he posted on X, "Congrats to Kamala Harris -- now it is time to win", showing support for her to win. Following day, Hastings reportedly revealed that he had donatedย USD 7 million to a pro-Harris super PAC.

After learning about the announcement made by Reed Hastings about endorsement and donation of millions of donation to Kamala Harris, theย Donald Trump supporters opted out of theย streaming services by ending theย subscription. Some of the users posted on social media announcing their Netflix Cancellations by using hashtag "#CancelNetflix", said the report.
