Zoho chief scientist Sridhar Vembu has warned about the growing threat of AI-powered voice scams and urged people to create verbal passwords with trusted family and friends. Google is transitioning its dedicated artificial intelligence responsibility unit out of the Google DeepMind division and into its central global affairs organization. The structural change involves approximately 90 employees and forms part of a broader corporate reorganization designed to integrate DeepMind more tightly with central operations.
As per a report by The Times of India, the team is led by vice president Helen King, who informed staff that the unit will report directly under standard product area structures. The group handles critical safety evaluations, including testing advanced models for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear risks alongside chatbot psychological impacts. As per a report by WSJ, the relocation has sparked anxiety among some internal staff members regarding the future independence of safety research. Employees expressed apprehension that moving away from the primary research laboratory could reduce direct access to engineering teams developing core Gemini models, potentially hindering rapid threat identification.
Despite these internal misgivings, leadership has maintained that the transition will not alter daily operational focus or restrict publishing rights. Management emphasized that computing resources and headcount allocations remain secure as the corporate entity unifies its overall approach to responsible technology deployment.
