Incident Sparks Outrage
A clip of the footage was shared by Reform UK's Shadow Chancellor and Newark MP Robert Jenrick, who criticised Birmingham Police in multiple posts. Sharing the footage, he referenced the force's "Race Action Plan," claiming it instructs officers not to over-police black people and frames outcome disparities as a problem regardless of their causes. In another post, Jenrick questioned why the man being attacked was arrested while his attackers fled, accusing authorities of "two-tier policing" and pointing to similar incidents elsewhere in the UK.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage also criticised the force, alleging that police arrested the victim of the attack instead of the assailants and calling it further evidence of "two-tier policing against white people in Britain."
What Did The Police Say
West Midlands Police said in a post on X that they were aware of the footage circulating online. According to the force, officers intervened after spotting a group of men fighting, during which an officer was punched. A 20-year-old man was arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer.

In a separate post, the force stated that the matter had been reviewed internally and that there were no concerns over the officer's actions, describing the response as reasonable and proportionate given the circumstances. Police also asked that the footage not be further circulated so that legal proceedings could take their course.
In a notice on their page, West Midlands Police acknowledged the footage showing the assault before the man's arrest and confirmed they are carrying out active enquiries to identify those involved. The force noted that officers were in the area at the time but were dealing with the arrest of another man when the assault took place, and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
