The rescue unfolded in Sabino Canyon in Tucson just before 8 a.m. local time on Thursday, August 13, according to a news release from the Pima County Sheriff's Department. Her family members and nearby bystanders jumped into the water to help her, with the woman remaining submerged for several minutes before she was pulled out.

Once rescued, the victim was given CPR until she regained consciousness. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS affiliate KOLD that the force of the floodwater carried the woman through a tunnel and ejected her roughly 100 feet downstream.

Sheriff Issues Warning Against Crossing Flooded Bridges

Although the incident ended safely for those involved, Sheriff Nanos had a clear message for anyone considering crossing a flooded bridge: "Don't do it."

The agency reinforced the warning in its statement, saying, "Fast-moving water is extremely dangerous and puts you and first responders at risk. Turn around. Don't drown."
