A woman was rescued after falling into California's Kern River and being carried downstream by the fast-moving current, in an incident that was caught on dramatic video over the weekend. In video shared by the sheriff's office, the officer aboard Air 1 can be heard warning ground crews that the woman would be hard to spot from below, adding that he would guide them directly to her location from above since she was tucked under the rocks and not visible until rescuers got very close.

Once fire personnel reached the spot, they threw the woman a life jacket, which she managed to put on while still holding onto the rocks. Rescuers then used a flotation device attached to a rope to pull her out of the river.

Authorities said the woman was successfully rescued and handed over to emergency medical personnel for evaluation. The sheriff's office credited the rapid response and coordination between agencies for bringing the incident to a safe end.
