Did China Use Military Officer As Waitress To Spy on Elon Musk?

Zeng shared images from the Chinese Communist Party’s state banquet honouring Trump, claiming that photographs of the same women “in uniform” were circulating on Chinese social media platforms.

In one of her posts, she alleged that a waitress seen standing directly behind Elon Musk was Major Cheng Cheng, whom she described as an elite battalion commander involved in drafting operational manuals for China’s military ceremonies. Neither the Chinese government nor official military authorities have responded to the specific allegations made by Zeng. No official evidence has been presented publicly to confirm the identity of the woman seen in the banquet photographs or to support claims that Chinese military personnel were operating undercover during the event.

The allegations nevertheless gained traction online due to longstanding concerns among Western intelligence agencies regarding Chinese espionage activities targeting diplomatic, political and technological sectors.

Security experts have frequently pointed to China’s history of alleged intelligence-gathering operations involving deep-cover operatives and influence campaigns.

One of the most widely discussed cases involved Fang Fang, also known as Christine Fang, who was accused by US intelligence-linked reports of developing relationships with local American politicians and business figures in California as part of a suspected influence operation.

Western intelligence agencies have also repeatedly warned about alleged infiltration efforts by Chinese state actors within technology firms, diplomatic institutions and strategic industries.

Jennifer Zeng’s Previous Claims

This is not the first time Jennifer Zeng has made allegations involving international espionage and covert Chinese operations. In 2023, she claimed the Chinese Communist Party played a role in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. According to her, China’s “purpose was to frame India, creating discord between India and the West.” Those allegations were also not independently verified.
