Collision Involves Unoccupied Autonomous Vehicle and Nissan Murano
Investigators said the collision involved two vehicles: a silver Nissan Murano and a Zoox autonomous vehicle. Police confirmed that the Zoox vehicle was completely unoccupied at the time of the crash, carrying neither passengers nor a safety backup driver.
The driver of the Nissan Murano was transported to a local medical facility with a minor upper-body injury, according to law enforcement officials.
Traffic Snarls and Roadway Closures
Tow trucks were dispatched to the intersection near the south end of Mandalay Bay to clear both damaged vehicles.
As of late Friday morning, travel lanes two through five on southbound Las Vegas Boulevard remained blocked to allow for towing operations and the initial on-site accident reconstruction.
