105 Indians Among 384 Missing Travellers
The Nepal Tourism Board's preliminary records have identified 384 travellers whose whereabouts and safety are being verified, including 105 Indian nationals. The list includes 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals whose status is being confirmed following the disaster. The Nepal Tourism Board, Tourist Police and other tourism stakeholders are coordinating with travel agencies, guides, local authorities and security agencies to trace the travellers. Other Foreign Nationals On The List
Besides Indians, the list includes travellers from Australia, the Netherlands, the United States, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and South Africa. The nationalities of several foreign nationals are yet to be confirmed, while 37 travellers have been listed as non-resident Indians (NRIs). The preliminary data was compiled on the basis of information provided by 10 tourism and travel agencies with travellers in or moving through the affected area, including Trekkers Society with 92 travellers, Samrat Tours & Travels with 71, Leaf Holiday with 55 and Himalayan Glacier with 52. Bihar Placed On Alert
Bihar's Disaster Management Department said special vigilance is being exercised following the flash flood situation in the upper catchment area of the Gandak River in Nepal and the possibility of a sudden increase in water flow. Authorities said preparations were being made to deal with a possible flood situation in districts located along the Gandak River.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said a high-level team had been constituted to assess and monitor the potential danger arising from the flash floods in Nepal. "A high-level team has been constituted to look into the matter. The Chief Secretary and the DGP are personally monitoring the situation. I am also holding a meeting on the matter immediately," Choudhary said.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath Expresses Concern
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the destruction caused by the Bhote Koshi River flood as "extremely alarming" and prayed for the safety and well-being of those affected. In a post on X, Adityanath said, "The damage caused by the devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River in Nepal's Rasuwa region is extremely alarming. Prayers to Lord Pashupatinath for the safety and well-being of all." He added that in view of rising water levels in the Gandak and Narayani rivers, local administration in Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts had been instructed to remain fully vigilant.
All 36 Gates Of Gandak Barrage Opened
As a precautionary measure amid concerns over a possible surge in water flow, all 36 gates of the Gandak Barrage at Valmikinagar have been opened, a Bihar Water Resources Department official said. A technical team led by a superintending engineer has also been sent to monitor the situation, with warning messages issued to all districts in the Gandak river basin.
Evacuation Preparations Underway
The Bihar administration has begun preparations for the possible evacuation of people from vulnerable areas. The Chief Secretary held an emergency meeting with district magistrates and directed them to use public-address systems to warn residents living inside embankments and arrange to shift them to safer locations if required. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are also being deployed in potentially affected areas.
