Islamabad, July 3: Pakistan's army chief Javed Qamar Bajwa confirmed the death sentences to 12 terrorists on Monday. The terrorists were convicted of multiple attacks that killed 34 people including eight security personnel in recent years.

General Bajwa also confirmed imprisonment for six people involving in terror activities. A statement released on Monday said that along with the sentences for the ‘hardcore terrorists’, Gen. Bajwa also approved imprisonment for six people for their involvement in acts of terrorism. One suspect, Ehsan Ullah, was acquitted.

Defendants were allowed to hire lawyers, but the trials were closed to the public. Security forces also recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition when they arrested the terrorists in separate operations.

Before the army chief’s approval, the convicts first faced trial in military courts, which were set up after the terrorist attack on an army school in Peshawar in December 2014 for speedy trial of terrorism suspects. The ban of death penality for terrorists was also lifted after the school attack.

In the latest terrorist attack on security forces in Pakistan, six security personnel were killed in the area, 30 Km fro Mashkay when rocket fired from the nearby mountains landed and exploded near a bomb disposal team on MondayTwo security personnel were also injured in the attack.
