An Indian landlady in Canada, identified as Raj Tiwana, has broken her silence after a series of videos showing her confrontations with a tenant went viral on social media, offering her own version of the dispute and denying that the clips tell the complete story. In a video statement shared on Instagram in Punjabi, Raj said she was taken into police custody but released shortly afterwards, and claimed the viral videos were actually recorded around 10 days before they surfaced online. She said the ensuing controversy had triggered a wave of concern from her customers and acquaintances.

'Police Did Take Me Into Custody,' Raj Says

"Yes, the police did take me into custody. I don't know what information they had received, but they simply took me home and released me right then and there," Raj said in the video. She added that around 300 of her customers had come to visit her in a show of support. "My customers, who have supported me so much over the past four years, came to visit me yesterday," she said, noting she had been unable to respond to all the calls she received. Surrey Tenant Harassment: Indian-Origin Landlady Raj Tiwana Harasses Tenants Over Barbecue Dispute (Videos).

Raj Alleges Unpaid Rent, Harassment By Tenants

Addressing the underlying dispute, Raj alleged that her tenants had not paid rent for several months and claimed she had faced harassment and property damage from them. "I decided to make this video, to let everyone know that I am perfectly fine. Also, the tenants hadn't been paying rent for several months; they were harassing me and damaging the property," she said. She added that she had approached the Tenancy Board over the matter and that the tenants were evicted last week. "I had been dealing with the Tenancy Board regarding this, and they were finally evicted last week. They released those videos later; meanwhile, the police and my lawyer are working on the matter, and we are handling the situation smoothly. What's done is done, but everything is okay as lawyers, the police, and the Tenancy Board are all involved. Thanks for helping me," she said. Canada Viral Video: Woman Escapes Grizzly Bear Attack While Hiking With Dog, Terrifying Chase Caught on Camera.

How The Confrontation Escalated

The dispute reportedly began after Raj objected to a tenant using a barbecue in the garden with a friend. In one viral video, she is seen removing patties from a grill as the man questions her, asking, "Why are you trying to intimidate us? We are just trying to cook dinner." Raj then picked up a piece of wood and pushed the patties off the grill, telling him, "You cannot do this on my property. I'm calling the police right away."

The confrontation escalated further in another video, which appeared to show Raj entering the tenant's home and throwing rocks in his direction before a physical altercation broke out, with the man repeatedly asking her to stop while keeping his distance. The tenant later accused Raj of harassment and shared multiple clips alleging she had assaulted him, including footage showing police arriving at her home. In that video, an officer is heard telling her, "Raj, you are under arrest, please don't argue," to which a seemingly confused Raj responded, "It's going to be stressful. No, I have to call my daughter. Can I call my daughter?" She was then handcuffed and escorted to a police vehicle.

Raj has now presented her side of the story, saying the matter stems from an ongoing tenancy dispute and that lawyers, police and the Tenancy Board are all currently involved.
