What Happened to Hyderabad Student Manideep Reddy? Missing Teen Found Dead in Finland After 2 Months

An 18-year-old student from Hyderabad, Telangana, who went missing in Finland in May, has been found dead nearly two months after he disappeared. Finnish police confirmed that the body recovered from the sea in Helsinki on July 9 has been identified as Manideep Reddy, an Indian student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Software and Systems Engineering at Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology.

According to Finnish authorities, Reddy was last seen on May 5 after travelling by train from Lahti to Helsinki. CCTV footage showed him visiting a supermarket in Helsinki's Kruunuvuorenranta area at around 8 pm before he went missing.

In a statement, the Finland Police said personal belongings recovered with the body, including a wallet containing Reddy's Finnish identity card, his mother's bank card and Indian currency, helped confirm his identity.

Family Suspects Foul Play

Manideep Reddy's family, however, has questioned the findings and alleged that his death is "suspicious."

"We strongly feel that it is a suspicious death and not a natural death," Kumar said, urging authorities to investigate how Reddy disappeared and what led to his death.

The family also pointed to reported university account logins on May 9 and May 10, days after Reddy went missing. According to the lawyer, Finnish investigators were examining the devices and IP addresses linked to those logins.

Before his disappearance, Reddy had reportedly spoken to his mother and requested an INR 6,000 transfer to his bank account. Although the money was credited, the family said it was never used.

The family has also alleged that their request to travel to Finland during the search was denied after their visa applications were rejected.

The investigation into Manideep Reddy's death remains ongoing.
