At an age when most teenagers are still considering their career options, Lakshmanan Meyyappan had already completed a professional accounting qualification. Guinness World Records has recognised Meyyappan as the world’s youngest male Chartered Accountant, after he achieved the record in Dubai at the age of 16 years and 141 days.

His journey into finance began during the COVID-19 pandemic, shortly after he completed his Class 10 board examinations. At 15, Meyyappan started studying for the ACCA qualification and completed it in about a year. He has since continued his studies while building professional experience in Dubai. Renu Dhariyal From Uttarakhand Sets Guinness Record for Longest Hair, Measuring Nearly 9 Feet (See Pics).

From Class 10 To A Career In Finance

Meyyappan's interest in accounting developed during the COVID-19 lockdown. According to an earlier profile by PwC Academy, his mother, who is also an ACCA, introduced him to basic accounting concepts during the pandemic. He subsequently decided to pursue the qualification himself.

At 15, he began studying for ACCA and completed it in approximately a year, setting him on a professional path at an unusually young age. Completing ACCA was not the end of his academic journey. Meyyappan subsequently pursued the CFA qualification and is now studying for an MSc in Finance.

Guinness World Records Recognition

Guinness World Records recognised Meyyappan as the world's youngest male Chartered Accountant after he achieved the milestone in Dubai at 16 years and 141 days.

Reflecting on the recognition, Meyyappan said, "This milestone means a lot to me, but I have never approached qualifications as a race. What mattered was understanding how finance works in the real world and building skills that remain relevant over time. When learning is driven by curiosity rather than speed, the outcome is far more meaningful."

His comments emphasise his focus on understanding finance and developing skills rather than simply completing qualifications at a young age.

What Does Lakshmanan Meyyappan Do?

Meyyappan now works in the financial sector as a Senior Research Analyst at Century Financial in Dubai. His work involves investments, research and analysis, as well as decision-making related to financial markets. Alongside his professional responsibilities, he continues to pursue higher education through his MSc in Finance.

Meyyappan also has an interest outside academics and financial markets. In his free time, he spends some of his time designing and building watches, giving him a creative pursuit alongside his studies and professional career.

What His Journey Shows

Meyyappan's journey provides an example of a student pursuing professional qualifications soon after school rather than following only a conventional degree path.

After completing Class 10, he moved into professional accounting studies, later added the CFA charter and continued toward a postgraduate qualification in finance.

For students interested in accounting and finance, his experience also highlights the range of professional qualifications and career paths available beyond a traditional undergraduate degree.
