ASI Held for Taking Bribe

New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) attached with Fatehpur Beri Police Station has been arrested for allegedly demanding Rs 2 lakh bribe from a complainant, officials said Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Kuldeep Singh, they said.

According to a senior police official, the ASI was arrested red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant.

The complainant had approached vigilance branch to lodge a complaint against Singh, alleging that he had demanded Rs 2 lakh as bribe to extend "support" in the investigation of a case registered at Fatehpur Beri Police Station, in which his son and nephew are the accused persons, officials said.

The complainant had already paid Rs 1.7 lakh out of the total demand of Rs 2 lakh and on Friday, he was to pay the remaining amount near Fatehpur Beri police station, they added.

A case was registered and further investigation is underway, officials said.
