Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 1 (ANI): Actor Emraan Hashmi described his latest release 'Awarapan 2' as the "best film" of his career while penning a celebratory note for the success of the movie at the box office.

The actor called Awarapan 2 a "rare phenomenon" as it was billed as a sequel to its predecessor, which was released nearly 20 years ago but failed to find its audience in the theatres.

"There are films you work on, and then there are films you are genuinely proud to be a part of. Awarapan 2 belongs to the latter. It has become a rarest-of-rare phenomenon - an unprecedented feat. A film that didn't find its audience two decades ago returning with a sequel, determined to rewrite history at the box office," wrote Emraan Hashmi.

The actor also credited the movie's producer, Vishesh Bhatt, for his "vision" and commitment towards the film. He urges the cinemagoers to watch the movie in theatres.

'Awarapan 2' was directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Films. The film brings back Emraan Hashmi as Shivam Pandit, who is approached by an Interpol officer to help rescue abducted children.

The film also stars Disha Patani as Zara and Shabana Azmi as gangster queen Nafisa. Suvinder Vicky, Vijayant Kohli and Puran Gabbi are also part of the cast.

As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, 'Awarapan 2' opened with Rs 23.40 crore on Friday before registering a substantial jump on Saturday, which coincided with Independence Day, with collections of Rs 34.09 crore.

The film followed that with Rs 26.82 crore on Sunday, taking its opening weekend total to Rs 84.31 crore in official nett box-office collections in India.

The opening day itself marked a notable milestone for the franchise, with Friday's collection surpassing the entire lifetime business of the 2007 original 'Awarapan'.

'Awarapan 2' is a direct sequel to 'Awarapan,' which was directed by Mohit Suri. While the original film did not perform well at the box office when it was released, it later gained a strong following. Its music, including songs such as 'Toh Phir Aao', continues to remain popular. (ANI)
