Ahmedabad, Dec 13 (PTI) Ahmedabad recorded 247 COVID- 19 cases on Sunday, the highest for any district in Gujarat, taking the infection count to 53,961, while eight deaths increased the toll to 2,173, an official said.
The day also saw 268 people, comprising 257 from city limits and 11 from rural areas, getting discharged, taking the tally of recoveries to 48,787, he added.

"Of the new cases, the city accounted for 239 and the rural parts eight. The latter now has 3,765 cases, while 3,683, or 98 per cent, have recovered," the official said.
An Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation official said its north west zone had 473 active cases, followed by west with 462 and south west with 421.

The number of micro containment areas in AMC limits is 87, down from 98, he said.
