Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 19 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Sonapur Government Old Age Home on Monday and presented Aadhaar, Ration, Ayushman, and Orunodoi cards to the residents.
According to officials, the Old Age Home is run by the Monalisa Society under the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment of the State Government.
During the visit, the residents tied Rakhi to the Chief Minister to mark the Raksha Bandhan celebration.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr Sarma announced that the state government would issue Aadhaar, Ration, Ayushman, and Orunodoi cards to all the residents of old age homes in Assam who lacked them.
"Aadhaar cards would allow people living in old age homes to receive 5 kg of free rice each month," he said, adding that Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Assam CM Jan Arogya Yojana cards would cover up to Rs 5 lakh in annual medical expenses at government hospitals.
"Orunodoi scheme would facilitate a monthly deposit of Rs 1,250 into the beneficiaries' bank accounts," he added further.
"Additionally, the state government would take measures to ensure that these residents could access health check-ups at Sonapur Civil Hospital," he said.
Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, MLA Atul Bora, Commissioner & Secretary of Social Justice & Empowerment Department Virendra Mittal and several other dignitaries were also present during the visit of the Chief Minister.
Earlier, members of various social organisations and community members tied Rakhi to Chief Minister Dr. Sarma at a ceremony held at his official residence here today. Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal and Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika were present at the event. (ANI)
