Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 6 (ANI): The political temperature in Telangana escalated on Monday as the Congress mounted a sharp offensive against both the BJP and the BRS, accusing BJP MPs of failing to protect Telangana's interests while alleging that the previous BRS government's flagship Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project had become a symbol of financial mismanagement and administrative failure.

The Congress alleged that BJP Members of Parliament from Telangana have remained silent on several key issues affecting the state, including delays in the Metro Rail expansion and the timely supply of urea and fertilisers.

The party claimed that while Telangana continues to wait for critical Central support, resources and development opportunities are increasingly being directed towards northern states.

It stated that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has repeatedly urged Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy to help expedite the Metro Rail project, but has expressed disappointment over the lack of progress. The party asserted that Telangana's elected representatives must prioritise the state's development and safeguard its rightful share in Central projects.

Turning its attention to the BRS, the Congress criticised Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) over his defence of the Kaleshwaram project, alleging that his recent remarks reflected a poor understanding of the project's technical realities.

The party claimed that irrigation experts have questioned the feasibility of operating the Kannepalli pump because of capacity constraints and argued that the project, built at an estimated cost of around ₹1.5 lakh crore through heavy borrowings, had failed to deliver the expected benefits.

The Congress further questioned KTR's suggestion that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) should once again take charge of the project, asking what could now be achieved that was not accomplished during the BRS government's decade in power.

It maintained that the people of Telangana had already delivered their verdict by electing the Congress government and asserted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is focused on securing Telangana's rights, accelerating development, and addressing the shortcomings inherited from the previous administration.(ANI)
