Karur (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 10 (ANI): Relatives of the people who lost their lives in the 2025 Karur stampede on Friday expressed gratitude to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay after receiving government job appointment orders, saying that the appointment has given them hope, financial security and strength to rebuild their lives after the tragedy which killed more than forty people.

The Chief Minister today handed over government job appointment orders to 32 members of the families of the 41 people who died in the stampede during a TVK rally in September 2025.

One of the beneficiaries, Nivethika, whose husband died in the stampede, said the Chief Minister shared the grief of the affected families and assured them of support. She said the government job would help raise her two children.

Speaking to ANI, Nivethika said, "Anna Vijay was deeply moved when he saw our grief. He shared our pain and comforted us. I have been offered a Junior Assistant position. My husband passed away, and I have two children. This job will be a great support for their future and our livelihood. Anna Vijay will take care of the court cases. Another beneficiary, Dhanlaxmi, who lost her 17-year-old son in the stampede, said she was offered a job at the Superintendent of Police (SP) Office and described it as a source of hope and security after her personal loss.

Dhanlaxmi said, "When Anna Vijay saw us in the front row, he became very emotional. Seeing all of us crying deeply moved him, and he too became emotional. I have been offered a job at the Superintendent of Police (SP) Office. My 17-year-old son passed away. This job will be a great support for my livelihood because both of my parents have also passed away. I am grateful for this opportunity, as it gives me hope and security for the future."

Sangavi, who lost her husband in the incident, said the appointment would provide much-needed support as she continues to cope with her loss.

Sangavi said, "My husband has passed away. I have now been offered a job in a school. I am still grieving the loss of my husband. This job would be a great support to me during this difficult time."

Another beneficiary, Guna Sekaran, who lost his mother in the stampede, said the appointment in the Town Panchayat Department gave him comfort even as he continues to live with the memories of the day they were separated in the crowd.

Guna Sekaran said, "My mother passed away. Today, CM Vijay presented me with my appointment order, and I have been offered a job in the Town Panchayat Department. Today, the Chief Minister spoke to us with great compassion and expressed his heartfelt condolences. Receiving this job feels as though my mother is still with me. It gives me comfort and strength, and I believe it will be a great source of support in my life."

"At the time of the incident, I was with my mother. Because the crowd was so large, we got separated, and I was unable to save her. That thought will always stay with me. This job brings me some comfort and helps me move forward," Sekaran added.

The Karur stampede took place during a rally of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay on September 27, 2025, leaving 41 people dead and several others injured.

In October 2025, the Supreme Court transferred the investigation from a state-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), emphasising the need for an independent and impartial probe. (ANI)
