Imphal (Manipur) [India], April 1 (ANI): The security forces on Tuesday nabbed two active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba) in the Imphal East district, according to a press note.
The arrested accused has been identified as one Thokchom Tompok Singh (27) of Chana Mayai Lelkai, who was arrested from his residence and Urikhinbam Brijeshrajan Meitei alias Abaicha (24) of Yourabung Khunou, who was arrested from Pungdongbam Makha Leikai.
A mobile phone was recovered from Meitei during the arrest.
The security forces also recovered four 9 mm pistols, four 9 mm pistol magazines, twelve IEDs (destroyed in situ), clothing items and uniforms, including a combat shirt, two pairs of combat pants, two combat jackets, a combat cap, and a combat handbag from the forest area of Salvom Ridge under Tengoupal police station in Tengnoupal district.
The Movement of 140 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations, and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
In view of the continued search operations to arrest individuals involved in extortion and criminal activities, a total of 114 Nakas/Check points were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hills and the valley, and 5 persons were detained, the press note stated.
The Manipur police also circulated a helpline number for the civilians to confirm the authenticity of any video circulating on the internet to avoid misinformation.
"Appeal is made to the public not to believe in rumour and be vigilant of false videos. The veracity of any circulation of unfounded videos, audio clips, etc., may be confirmed from the number 9233522822 of Central Control Room," the press note read.
The note further flagged that there are possibilities of many fake posts being circulated on social media and cautioned that uploading and circulation of such fake posts on social media will attract legal action with consequences.
The Manipur police appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately. (ANI)
