Aizawl, Jan 8 (PTI) Mizoram on Saturday reported its highest single day spike in COVID-19 cases since October 20, 2021, with 852 fresh cases which took the state's caseload to 1,44,624, a health department official said.

The spike was also 32 per cent more than Friday's 579 cases, he said.
As three persons succumbed to the infection in the state its toll rose to 558.
Of the three deaths two were reported since from Khawzawl district and one from Aizawl district, the official said.
The single-day positivity rate increased to 15 per cent from 9.72 per cent the previous day. At least 128 children were among the newly infected people, he said.
Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 261, followed by Serchhip (255) and Lawngtlai (69), the official said.
The number of active cases now stand at 3,464, while 152 people have recovered from the infection on Saturday taking the total recoveries to 1,40,602, he said.
The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 97.22 per cent and the death rate is 0.38 per cent.
The northeastern state has so far tested a total 15.32 lakh samples out of which 5,672 samples were tested on Friday.
According to state immunisation officer Lal Zawmi, over 7.45 lakh people, including 12,540 children (15-17 years), have been vaccinated till Friday.
Of the total 7.45 lakh eligible people, 5.94 lakh have received the full dose, she said.
