India News | Opposition's Agitation Against SIR is Indicative of Defeat It Faces in Bihar Polls: Sanjay Jha

New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) Janata Dal (United) working president Sanjay Jha on Friday said the opposition's agitation against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar is indicative of the defeat it faces in the upcoming assembly polls.

He noted the Supreme Court, while hearing pleas challenging the exercise, has allowed it to continue and asked the opposition parties to trust the Election Commission's statement that no eligible voter will be excluded following the revision.

"It seems to me that opposition leaders can see the polls results. All this agitation and reaction is an outcome of their clear sense of the kind of verdict which awaits them," said the Rajya Sabha MP.

The Bihar Assembly polls are expected to be held in October-November.

Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court had allowed the Election Commission (EC) to continue with the exercise but asked it to consider Aadhaar, Voter ID and ration cards as valid documents during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Calling SIR a "constitutional mandate", Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi considered the submissions of senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi, appearing for the EC, and permitted the poll panel to continue with the exercise in Bihar with over seven crore voters.
