Chandigarh, Oct 7 (PTI) Over 3,600 nominations for the posts of 'sarpanch' have been rejected, a spokesperson of the Punjab State Election Commission said on Monday.

According to the spokesperson, 3,683 nominations for posts of sarpanch and 11,734 nominations for 'panch' have been rejected by Returning Officers during the scrutiny process for the gram panchayat elections.

Elections to 13,229 gram panchayats will be held on October 15.

The commission had received over 52,000 nominations for the post of sarpanch and more than 1.66 lakh nominations for panch.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 7. Votes will be counted on the same day at polling stations.
