Agartala, May 2 (PTI) The Tripura unit of the CITU today alleged that the BJP goons attacked those who joined Labour Day programmes across the state yesterday.
"Many of our leaders and supporters were attacked by BJP sheltered goons during flag hoisting, rallies and other events organized to mark the May Day in at least six districts," CITU state Secretary Shankar Dutta alleged.
They were attacked at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district, Teliamura in Khowai district, Amarpur and Ampi in Gomati district, Gandacherra and Kamalpur in Dhalai district, Boxanagar in Sipahijala district, and Dukli in West Tripura districts, he claimed.
Dutta, an MP, said this would be informed to CITU headquarters at New Delhi.
At Dharmanagar, a mob broke chairs, flags, festoons at the programme venue and threw microphones and sound system.
"A new government has come to power in Tripura. Such activities are not healthy for democracy. These actions should come to the attention of people. Democratic systems will be weakened by such acts," The MP said.
The BJP-IPFT coalition has come to power in the state on March 3, trouncing the 25-year-old CPI(M) led Left Front government.
