Late Withdrawal Forces Goalkeeper Change
Courtois’ sudden absence marks his first missed appearance of the 2026–27 campaign. Having played a full 90 minutes in midweek during Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League victory over RB Leipzig, the 34-year-old was expected to anchor the defence in Catalonia.
Club medical staff confirmed he was unfit to travel, prompting an emergency adjustment to the matchday roster. Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is in line to deputise between the posts. To cover the bench, young goalkeeper Illia Voloshyn has been called up to the senior traveling party alongside Sergio Mestre. High Stakes at Camp Nou
The loss of their undisputed number-one goalkeeper complicates a demanding fixture for Los Blancos. Real Madrid enter the weekend sitting third in the La Liga standings, needing a positive result against Hansi Flick's table-topping Barcelona side to prevent their arch-rivals from extending their lead at the summit.
Mourinho's side must also navigate the fixture without suspended forward Vinicius Junior, placing additional pressure on the defensive unit to absorb pressure from Barcelona's prolific attack.
