Chandigarh, May 28 (PTI) Punjab State Vigilance Bureau today nabbed an inspector of Punjab Grains Procurement Corporation Ltd (Pungrain) while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000.
Surinder Kumar Sharma, and Inspector Pungrain posted at purchase centre, Ibrahimwal in Kapurthala district was caught red handed on the complaint of Vinod Kumar of M/s T R Agro Industries, a spokesperson of the vigilance bureau said here.
He said the complainant had approached the vigilance bureau alleging that the inspector was demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to clear the pending transportation bills of their firm and a deal was struck at Rs 80,000.
After verifying the complaint, a team of vigilance bureau officials laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed, the spokesperson said.
A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused and further investigation was underway, he said.
