New Delhi [India], Oct 01 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called Indonesian President H. E. Joko Widodo, offering his condolences over the earthquake and tsunami that hit the Sulawesi region of the island nation.
At least 832 people have died in the earthquake and tsunami that hit Sulawesi on September 28, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) .
Prime Minister Modi also appreciated the resilience and courage of the people of Indonesia in the face of the challenges emanating from the wide spread devastation caused due to the grave natural calamity.
In response to Indonesia's appeal for international aid, the Prime Minister offered to the Indonesian President all possible assistance from India as a maritime neighbour and friend of Indonesia.
The two leaders agreed that the details of India's relief assistance will be worked out through diplomatic and official channels.
Besides the deaths, the BNPB also confirmed that at least 540 people were injured from the disasters, with a further 16,372 people displaced. (ANI)
