Hailakandi, May 16 (PTI) Prohibitory orders were imposed in Hailakandi district of Assam by the administration to maintain law and order, an official said today.

The order issued by District Magistrate Adil Khan prohibits demonstration, picketing and procession in front of offices, public institutions, public undertakings, commercial establishments or any other places of public importance.

The order also prohibits inflammatory speeches, communal or anti-national slogan shouting, writing and postering on walls, roads, public or private buildings, vehicles, etc., use of loud speakers and bursting of crackers, unauthorised construction and encroachment in forest areas and government land.

Exempting government meetings and programmes from the purview of the order, it says violation of the order will result in prosecution under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Khan held a security meeting with the superintendent of police and other senior officials of security agencies to review the law and order situation in the district.

Section144 of the CrPc has been promulgated to avert untoward incidents breaching peace and tranquillity, the district magistrate said.

On May 14, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) took out a procession in Hailakandi against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and some miscreants pelted stones, injuring some activists.
