New Delhi [India], Nov 01 (ANI): Indian Tennis player Ramkumar Ramanathan on Wednesday progressed to the men's doubles quarterfinals of the Shenzhen Challenger tournament in China along with compatriot Saketh Myneni.
Ramkumar and Myneni sealed their last-eight berth with a closely fought 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 victory over the third-seeded Chinese pair of Mao-Xin Gong and Ze Zhang.
Earlier, Ramanathan was knocked out of the singles event in his first ever meeting against Mohamed Safwat. The World No 121 Indian lost a tight contest 6-7, 4-6 to his Egyptian World No 202 opponent.
The defeat means Sasi Kumar Mukund is left as the sole Indian in the singles draw. He will play against Canada's eighth-seeded Filip Peliwo on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the top-seeded Indian pair of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and N. Sriram Balaji, also progressed to the quarters as they ousted M. Safwat and A. Nedovysov with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 win. (ANI)
