Kolkata, Sep 20 (PTI) Educational institutes of West Bengal would celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as has been planned by the Central government, state minister Partha Chatterjee said Thursday.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, which was attended by vice-chancellors of seven universities of the state.

After the meeting, Chatterjee said the central government has some plans about the sesquicentennial birth celebration of Mahatma Gandhi and the state's educational institutes would take tart in them.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had in May attended the first meeting of a 'national committee' tasked with planning the events to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The meeting also discussed issues such as infrastructural development and filling up of vacant posts in the universities of the state.
