Bajaj Auto will be reviving the iconic ‘Chetak’ brand tomorrow in India with the launch of its first electric scooter. The two-wheeler manufacturer recently sent out media invites to confirm the launch date for the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter. It is important to note that Bajaj Auto will be the first mainstream two-wheeler company to introduce its first electric two-wheeler in India. Additionally, the Chetak electric scooter will be the company’s first two-wheeler under its EV vertical called Urbanite. As the company had already unveiled the product, the launch event will mainly focus on the pricing followed by deliveries and availability. On the design front, the Bajaj Chetak retains its neo-retro design with an all-metal body that seems to take inspiration from Vespa. The main underlines of the electric scooter are LED headlight with strip LED DRLs, circular retro-styled complete digital instrument panel, 12-inch alloy wheels, rear sequential blinkers, and more. Additionally, the scooter will also be getting features like keyless ignition, battery level details, range information and much more.

The scooter will use a 4kW electric motor to derive power from a lithium-ion battery that is claimed to offer a maximum range of around 100km on a single charge. The company claims that the scooter can offer 85km of range in a single charge in the Sport mode. However, this range increases over to 95km in Eco mode. Additionally, the customers can fully charge the battery in just 5 hours. Moreover, the e-scooter can be charged to 25 percent in just an hour.

Notably, the lithium-ion battery on the electric scooter comes with an IP67 rating, but it is not swappable. Also, it can be charged with a regular household 15A power socket. For braking, the company has incorporated a disc brake up front and a drum brake at the rear, ensuring adequate braking. The company claims that the scooter can be brought to stand still position from 60 kmph in just 2.8m. Another highlight of the scooter is that it comes with a reverse gear giving an easy option to the customers for getting out of tight parking spots.

The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will be retailed across the country through Pro-Biking dealerships. The e-scooter is likely to be priced somewhere around Rs 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom). As far as deliveries are concerned, the company is expected to commence the same after the price announcement. The Chetak will be launched in Pune first followed by Bengaluru and then other Indian cities.
